Every fanfic writer ever? Every fanfic writer ever.
They made a second MLP:FiM movie while we weren't looking and slipped it direct to video. So how's it shape up?
Well... There's no grand adventure or world-threatening villain. This is the mane six going to a /social/ Adventure Town, discovering a social problem, and solving it, against the backdrop of the magical land of Equestria.
As with the last movie, the character dialogue is solid and has a lot of funny little moments.
Just remember her parents literally named her another word for "accident".
A bit short notice, I know, but be advised that we have new pony coming this morning; Rainbow Roadtrip, a ninety-minute, movie-style special starting at the usual timeslot for those who have Discovery Family. Should be fun!
(And on the subject of rainbows, I've updated Oversaturation with the awesome cover iisaw provided for the print version. Thanks again to him.)
Just some... random things.
1) Twilight hot air balloon actually have a rather modern-looking burner inside. And judging by the flame color - it works on propane. Although it lacks propane tanks so maybe it works on magic.
2) It looks like Hope Hollow rainbow billboard made from gas-discharge tubes.
Today was the day Rainbow Roadtrip premiered on Discovery Family last year. I really enjoyed and it was a great way to bring back the animation style from the movie. So to celebrate it’s anniversary, I made a fanfic reading on one of the stories I’ve come across. Suspiciously Similar by TheAncientPolitzanian.
Bon Bon and Lyra Heartstrings know each other for a long time and in weekends they always do the best activities. When Twilight told them about Hope Hollow and the Rainbow Festival, it caught their interest to do something different for their relationship, take a trip to a village together. It will be a weekend they will never forget.
I have much to write about Rainbow Roadtrip, but before I tackle its themes, message, or emotional content, I want to take a moment to draw attention to some subtle characterization that was, in and of itself, profound.
Grading Scale:
A (fantastic episode)
A- (an excellent episode with at least one flaw)
B+ (a great episode with a couple of flaws)
B (a good episode which still could have been better)
Rainbow Roadtrip, mid-Season 9 special
Remember Student Counsel, and how Trixie was flipping out at Starlight? How Trixie was talking about the difference between buying a cake and making one, and we were all impressed at how funny they made it? Rainbow Roadtrip was like that, except if they were unable to make the mundane funny. For half and hour. I just stopped watching. Around the time RD meets her fanclub.
The interseason hiatus may have begun, but we have quite the animation backlog to get through before returning to the comics. And before we can even touch the EqG shorts, there’s a three-episode-long special to examine. Let’s get this show on the road.
I just finished the final chapter of Hope Hollow and it's going to be published tomorrow. But what I don't understand is why it's not getting any attention. It's a shipping fanfic with one of the best shippings when it comes to background characters while also being a Rainbow Roadtrip story. I just don't get it. Can someone give me an explanation about this? There's a reason why I finished this chapter story inside of cancelling it like my other chapter stories.
0/10 - AWFUL (unsalvageable, nothing to be gained from watching it, never should have been made, wouldn't recommend to anyone, completely butchers an important subject/teaches a horrible and downright toxic moral)
1/10 - HORRIBLE/BORING (tedious to sit through, hurts to watch it, a bore, no reason to watch it, whatever positive things about it are tiny and not enough to save it)
